The wisdom of Thomas Merton for our times

Winter Living Theology 2022

Searching for meaning

This year’s Winter Living Theology lecture series focuses on the wisdom of the Trappist Monk and spiritual writer Thomas Merton as a resource for responding to the ‘signs of the times.’

Beginning with the foundations of Merton’s life and work, this series explores the contemporary relevance of contemplation in a world of action, Merton’s insights on Christian nonviolence and peacemaking, his spirituality of racial justice, and his universal call to ecumenical and interreligious relationships.
